Metone Metronome
The sturdy Metone™ Metronome is used to enhance
and promote visual, auditory and motor skills.
Uses of METONE™ Metronome:
* Educational instrument for students to improve reading, math and spelling.
* Visual therapy tool effective for developing visual-motor skills.
* Rhythmic timing device.
* Auditory training instrument.
* Motor and rhythmic device used to integrate movement and body coordination.
* Musical tempo device to enhance rhythm.
Now, take a look at what people are saying:
"We have used Metone™ metronomes in our visual therapy practice for many years. It is an integral component in developing visual and auditory processing skills."

For over 20 years the Metone™ metronome has stood up to the most active and enthusiastic student and KEEPS ON TICKING!READING
METONE Metronomes are used in reading programs and classrooms around the world!
But how does a metronome help with reading?
Two important elements... rhythm and time!
Have you ever heard a song that you haven't heard for years and remembered every word?
How did you learn the alphabet? DO YOU STILL SING to remember letter order?
RHYTHM is an important input into the brain!
TIME! Inputting information into the brain is like inputting information into a computer. But, where did I put it???
For information to be useful, it must be accessible. With metronome practice, information must be accessible by the next beat.
Students who are having problems with fluency in reading and consequently having problems in comprehension benefit from practicing reading ON THE BEAT. Practicing reading each word on each slow beat to start with, slows the student who may be skipping words, losing his/her place, or misreading words. With practice, the student learns to land on each word and soon, the metronome beat can speed up and the student is able to get bigger bites of information with each eye movement. Now, comprehension improves because all the information is input into the brain.
As the "gathering of information" skills increase, the reading comprehension increases. The student is able to process information at higher perceptual levels.
THE EYES ON TRACK SYSTEM provides all the visual skills necessary for learning into fun activities for the classroom or home. The METONE Metronome is essential for this program because it:
* slows the student down and builds an internal control of self
* allows "time" to become an element in learning.
* So, soon the student is able to take his/her newfound skills and SPEED UP, maintaining accuracy.
But why use a METONE Metronome?
The design of a METONE allows for stability and durability. Many teachers have remarked that the METONE sits on a desk and is hard to knock over. But, even if it does fall down, it keeps on ticking! It also is loud enough for a whole classroom to hear and has a great tone, especially when used in the foam-lined box. It's best to keep the METONE in the foam-lined box for proper sound and protection.
With proper use and a single 9-volt battery, a METONE will run for over 300 hours! And, when the battery runs down, it can be easily replaced.
MATH
Practicing math facts to a METONE metronome beat helps with the memorization of math facts. As the addition, subtraction, and multiplication tables are easily remembered, the student is free to mentally manipulate numbers and is ready for higher levels of math.
METONE Metronome helps the student's skills to become automatic!
SPELLING
Spelling a word with one letter per beat helps imprint the word into memory just as the beat of a song imprints lyrics. Also, writing the letter in the air with the index finger (air writing) to the METONE beat imprints the word into visualization.
HANDWRITING
Many reading and handwriting programs use the METONE metronome to practice the rhythm of writing. Starting with the basic forms on templates, the students draw one side per beat. Remember, slowing these students down helps to build control. Once that is achieved, the student can speed up with accuracy. Later, practicing one stroke per beat of a printed letter, then a cursive letter achieves the goal of fine-motor control with speed.
MOTOR/SPORTS SKILLS
Many children have three speeds:
FAST
FASTER
OUT OF CONTROL!!!
Motor (movement) practice to a METONE Metronome beat teaches:
* "I can change MY speed to meet the needs of this activity"
* "I can CONTROL myself"
* "I can FOCUS my attention"
Children need to speed up or slow down to be appropriate to the activity at hand. Metronomes used with motor activities such as clapping, walking, hopping, jumping... or more complex activities train the child to respond with the RIGHT TIMING!
This ability carries over to the ability of the child/student to:
* Control himself/herself to sit at a desk without wiggling
* Focus attention on the teacher
* Improve in playground play/sports
* Improve self-esteemWhat is Vision Therapy?

METONE has a 20+ year association with developmental optometry. Functional/Developmental optometry has appreciated the value of time/rhythm from gross motor to the saccadic eye movements (small eye jumps) so important to all facets of learning.
But, the most important value in metronome work is the automaticity that metronome work induces. It's what therapists call 'Loading the System."
Loading the system:
1. SLOW DOWN. It's hard to modulate movement.
2. SPEED UP. Can accuracy be maintained?
3. Now add balance, lenses, prisms, filters, which can only be prescribed by a vision specialist.
METONES are durable and affordable enough to send for home vision activities. Also, many practices sell them to their patients as part of their program.
EYES ON TRACK: A Missing Link To Successful Learning is a great book to have in the reception room. Parents enjoy reading this book while their children are attending their Vision Therapy sessions. This easy to understand book helps parents understand the importance of improved visual skills to classroom or home school success!
